What are Hopi Ear Candles?

It is believed that the Ancient Greeks used ear candles to purify, cleanse and heal on a spiritual basis and have been shown, in ancient artworks to be used on a more physical basis. The Native American Hopi (“peaceful people”) Indians of North Arizona continue their use in the modern world. The candles available today are made to a traditional formula, handed down through the generations. They contain beeswax, honey extract, sage, St Johns Wort, camomile, beta-carotene and flax.

How does Hopi Ear Candling work?

It is thought that burning the candle may create a mild chimney effect. This may cause a very gentle vibration, which may help equalise the pressures either side of the eardrum. The mild warmth produced may soften earwax and promote the natural secretions within the ear canal.

Hopi Ear Candling may help with:

  • Excessive or compacted ear wax
  • Irritation in sinuses or ears
  • Improve ear/sinus pressure issues in cases of sinusitis, rhinitis, glue ear & post colds/flu
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Reduce effects of noises/ringing caused by tinnitus
  • Improving sense of smell
  • Relaxation and stress reduction
  • Stimulate local energy & blood flow
  • Other health benefits have also been noted after treatments

This treatment is suitable for children and under 16’s, with parent/guardian authority/presence.

The Hopi Ear Candling Treatment
Hear No More
You will be asked to fill in a brief questionnaire to ensure that Hopi Ear Candling is a suitable therapy for you. This also gives you the opportunity of letting your therapist know of any particular area of concern, that you feel you might need help with.

The treatment will be fully explained to you and you will be made comfortable, fully clothed whilst laid on your side on a treatment couch and asked to relax and perhaps, listen to some music.

A hopi candle will be gently sized & placed into your outer ear canal. Once the candle is lit, a pleasant crackling sound may be audible and a warming sensation may be felt inside your ear. Every care is taken to ensure none of the cool, powdered ash can fall onto you. Once the candle has had time to do its work, it will be removed and you will be asked to turn over for treatment on the other ear. At the end of the treatment session you will be asked to lie on your back so that a relaxing facial massage, designed to stimulate lymphatic drainage, can be given.

At the end of your treatment you will be offered fresh water to drink.

It is advisable not to have a large meal or any alcohol before receiving your treatment.

Try to plan for a relaxing period after your treatment, if at all possible.

You should experience a sense of relaxation and calm after the treatment as well as reduction in some of the previous symptoms. Where longer-term issues are being treated, it is possible for slight headaches or ears ‘popping’ to occur afterwards. Earwax residue may find its way out of the ear over 1-2 days. Further treatments may be recommended and will be discussed with you at this time.

Reikireiki1

The word Chakra comes from Sanskrit meaning wheel or disk. It is representative of the spiralling motion of energy as it flows into each Chakra point on the body. Seven Major Chakras are used for Reiki.

When all Chakras are spinning in harmony with each other, there appears to be a state of improved balance supporting physical, emotional and mental well-being.

If one or more of the Chakras becomes unbalanced or “blocked”/ changes speed or direction, perhaps as a consequence of the stresses and strains we encounter in daily living, then we may present real physical, emotional or mental symptoms of ill health.

It is thought that harmony and balance may be achieved through balancing or unblocking Chakra, using a number of techniques, including Reiki.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki is thought to be channelled through practitioners to where the Universal Healing Energy is needed.

Reiki energy has its own intelligence so it goes where it is most needed, according to individual requirements.

Reiki may help with many physical or emotional conditions such as:

  • Relief of stress through relaxation
  • Boosting immune support through reduces blood pressure
  • Reducing aches & pains through relaxation
  • Re – balancing body systems
  • Promoting well-being

Your Reiki treatment will then start and Reiki energy will be channelled towards each of your major Chakra points for a few minutes. Chakra cleansing is usually done during the session using crystals.

At the end of your treatment you will be invited to drink some fresh water.

It is advisable not to have a large meal or any alcohol before receiving your treatment.

Try to plan for a relaxing period after your treatment, if at all possible.

Each Reiki session is individual but an hour is usual so that the health questionnaire can be completed and any queries or discussion can take place afterwards.
